Last week, Luke Combs performed his song “Better Together” at the annual Billboard Music Awards.
The romantic ballad is a cut from Combs’ sophomore album, 2019’s What You See is What You Get, and is the country superstar’s latest radio single. Backed only by a pianist, the singer delivered a soul-stirring performance, showing off his impeccable vocal chops. “Some things just go better together and probably always will / Like a cup of coffee and a sunrise, Sunday drives and time to kill,” Combs belted on the chorus.
Following his performance, Combs accepted the Top Country Artist award, beating fellow singers Kane Brown, Dan + Shay, Maren Morris and Thomas Rhett. In his acceptance speech, Combs thanked his family and fans for their support. “I would have never dreamed of when I was growing up when I started doing this,” he said. “I just want to thank the fans out there, my beautiful wife at home, my team, my band… I know everybody out there has been through so much this year.”
Combs continued: “Thank you so much for loving what I do. It never falls on deaf ears the love that you guys give me and I’m very grateful for it and so is my team. Thank you guys so much.”
What You See is What You Get featured the hits “Beer Never Broke My Heart” and “1, 2 Many.” Later this week, Combs will release an extended version of the album, adding five new songs to the existing tracklist.
