Luke Combs, Billy Strings unite on “The Great Divide”

The singers call on others to come together.

Country superstar Luke Combs has joined forces with bluegrass musician Billy Strings for a sorrowful new song, “The Great Divide.”

On it, the singers plead others to put their differences aside so that the world can live in harmony. “We’re about to fall apart now / If we can’t reach the other side / We gotta find a way across the great divide,” they belt on the melancholic chorus. However, they later offer some optimism, hopefully singing, “I like to think too much damage ain’t been done.”

Strings had teased the collaboration in October last year with an Instagram photo of the two musicians during a songwriting session. “Down here writing hits with the bossman,” he had written in the caption.

“The Great Divide” marks Combs’ first release since dropping the deluxe edition of What You See is What You Get at the end of last year. His sophomore album was released in 2019 and included collaborations with country duo Brooks & Dunn and Eric Church. That same year, Strings also released his second LP Home.
