Nathaniel Rateliff has shared a new single “Redemption,” his soundtrack contribution to the upcoming film Palmer.
Inspired by second chances and personal growth, Rateliff’s earthy country folk track slowly builds into a roaring fire. The evocative, triumphant track follows the February release of Rateliff’s album And it’s Still Alright, which documented the singer dealing with divorce and the death of his producer Richard Swift.
“Redemption” can be heard in the trailer for Palmer, the new film starring Justin Timberlake as an ex-convict who returns home after years of incarceration and unexpectedly becomes a caretaker of a seven-year-old boy. The film will premiere via Apple TV+ on January 29.
“When I was first asked to write a song for Palmer I was told what the film was about and where the song was going to be used,” Rateliff explained in a statement. “The melody and the opening line came to me immediately. But it wasn’t until I had a conversation with Justin that helped me to put the song together. He said the film was about redemption. I saw that in the characters and did my best to add to the scene in the film.”
