Country singer-songwriter Kelsey Lamb has dropped her first single of 2021, “Come Here to Talk.”
The light-hearted song, which Lamb co-wrote with Taylor Goyette and Joe Tounge during the early days of the pandemic, is about going back to a toxic relationship despite knowing the repercussions. “’Cause I’m not here for fighting / Just been too many nights by myself / Don’t wanna work this thing out / I need a fix for my lonely / And you just know how to hold me,” she sings over an upbeat finger-snapping melody.
“The meaning of this song can be taken in so many different ways,” Lamb explained to Taste of Country. “I think that’s my favorite part about it. When we were writing this song, actually, the way I heard it and the way the other writers heard it were completely different.”
She added: “That made me love the concept even more because, as much as I love a good, detailed story in a song, I also love when the listener is able to find their own story inside of it.”
“I realize that running back to an ex isn’t something anyone’s quick to admit or talk about … [but] writing offers that safe place to run and storytell, and gives you a chance to explain why you did what you did without judgment,” Lamb said.
“Come Here to Talk” follows a string of singles Lamb put out last year: “Talk to Me,” “Where Do You Go,” “What if I Never Get Over You” and “Say it Again.” The singer’s last proper project was 2016’s holiday EP, Christmas with Kelsey.
