Listen to Kacey Musgraves’ cover of Roger Miller’s “Kansas City Star”

The track is set to appear on the ‘King of the Road: A Tribute to Roger Miller’ album.

It comes as no surprise that country’s reigning princess is slated to appear on the star-studded compilation album, King of the Road: A Tribute to Roger Miller. To pay homage to the musical legend, Kacey Musgraves has put her own dreamy spin on Roger Miller’s classic, “Kansas City Star.”

Her cover stays mostly true to the original’s feel-good honky tonk melody with a steel guitar and double bass taking point. But the singer-songwriter added a touch of contemporary with her silky vocals, transforming the song from a hillbilly jingle to an elegant country blues jam.

The tribute album, which features over 30 of Miller’s best hits, is set to drop later this month, and will feature country big names such as Dolly Parton, Many Barnett and Brad Paisley.
