Lauren Alaina dedicates new song “The Other Side” to late stepfather

“He was always my number one fan. Now he’s my guardian angel.”

Lauren Alaina has released an emotional new song, “The Other Side.”

The song is a tribute to the country singer’s stepfather, who died last year after a battle with melanoma. “I’ll be waiting, take your time / And go write a story / That you can’t wait to tell me / On the other side,” she sings on the gospel-tinged track.

“He was always my champion. He was always my number one fan. Now he’s my guardian angel. I can’t believe my stepdad has been gone a year today,” Alania wrote on Instagram. “We miss you. See you on The Other Side.”

Alaina, who is currently a contestant on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, also performed a heartbreaking contemporary number to “The Other Side” on Monday’s episode of the reality competition. “You’re a brave woman,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba told Alaina after the performance. “You touched all of our hearts tonight. It was so beautiful.”

“The Other Side” is Alaina’s third release of the year, following “Getting Good” and “Ladies in the ’90s.” The singer’s last album, Road Less Traveled, was released in 2017.
