Kelsea Ballerini releases her third album, ‘Kelsea’

She co-produced and -wrote all 13 tracks.

Kelsea Ballerini is back with her third studio record, Kelsea.

The self-titled project marks the 26-year-old’s obvious intention to push more boundaries as a country-pop singer, much like Taylor Swift, Shania Twain and Faith Hill. After all, Ballerini’s not new to the pop world, having worked with The Chainsmokers on the 2018 song “This Feeling.” And this year, on Kelsea, she enlists the help of her pop superstar friend Halsey for a smoky, slow-burn tune called “The Other Girl.”

From the groovy and autobiographical “Overshare” to the undeniable country bop “Hole in the Bottle,” Ballerini isn’t afraid to display the growth she’s made both as an artist and person. At the same time, she stays true to her roots on “Half of My Hometown,” featuring fellow Knoxville, Tennessee-native and country star Kenny Chesney.

In a recent with Entertainment Weekly about the new record, Ballerini said that “the last few years have been about digging into who I am as a young woman now, how I feel about myself, and the things I struggle with, the things I love, the things I’ve found a lot of joy in, the things that make me really anxious.”

“That’s what I ended up writing about because that’s what I’ve been walking through and experiencing. So it’s kind of like the get-to-know-myself album,” the singer added.

Kelsea is the follow-up to the singer’s 2017 release, Unapologetically. Back in January, Ballerini appeared on an episode of CMT Crossroads with Halsey, where they performed a duet of the latter’s song, “Graveyard.”
