Kassi Ashton takes to the stage in “Pretty Shiny Things” MV

The rising country singer gets up close and personal.

Country singer-songwriter Kassi Ashton has released an intimate video for her latest single, “Pretty Shiny Things.”

In the clip, Ashton performs the song on an elaborate theater set, surrounded by—you guessed it—pretty shiny things. The video makes use of harsh lighting and moody close-ups to underscore the track’s poignant message. The visual also marks Ashton’s second collaboration with director Kristin Barlowe, who also worked on the video for “Violins.”

“In our society, it feels like we’re forced to evaluate our reflection everywhere we turn, always waiting for a confirmation from someone else that we are enough,” Ashton said in a press release. “Putting that, and something so personal for me, into a visual is a weird task. I wanted it to feel real, not forced. Kristin Barlowe helped me so much in marrying what I wanted artistically with the real emotional monologue.”
