Kalie Shorr has shared the new single “Lying to Myself,” from the upcoming deluxe edition of her 2019 debut album Open Book.
The new track, which steps into ’90s rock territory with lightly distorted guitars, follows “My Voice,” which walked the tightrope between country and pop. Both will appear on the upcoming release Open Book: Unabridged, which according to Shorr will continue the original album’s storytelling focus on personal experiences.
Shorr wrote “Lying to Myself” after the end of a relationship, and captures the singer-songwriter’s internal questioning over whether it was the relationship that was serious—or just her.
“It’s so hard sometimes to keep my head out of the clouds and not idealize situations,” she said in a statement. “This was me taking an honest look inside to see how maybe I had set my expectations too high, and it wasn’t their fault.”
