Kacey Musgraves strips back “High Horse” for the Opry

The instrumentation was toned down, but the song stayed catchy as hell.

In September, Kacey Musgraves took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry, where she performed a special version of “High Horse.” A newly released video of the performance captures how she stripped down the danceable Golden Hour standout.

For the legendary venue, the star and her band toned down the disco inflections of the original and amped up the country twang, most evident in the addition of a banjo and strings. Before kicking off “High Horse” proper, Musgraves smiled and told the audience, “Don’t be scared.” And they needn’t have been—because the song stayed catchy as hell.
