Arkansas artist Justin Moore has released “Why We Drink,” the final single before he drops his fifth LP, Late Nights and Longnecks.
The new song is a tightly coiled pop country track all about reasons to imbibe. Some of the justifications Moore offers on the track: “’Cause it’s Friday, ’cause it’s Monday, ’cause it’s a charcoal burnin’ Sunday.”
Surprisingly, it was Moore’s mother who lit the spark that culminated in “Why We Drink,” he told Access. The singer had been out for dinner with his wife and parents when his mom asked him why he drank so much.
“And I go, ‘Hell, I don’t know why I drink so much!’ I like drinking,” Moore exasperatedly recounted. “If my team wins, I drink to celebrate. If my team loses, I drink ’cause I’m bummed out… So I had this idea to write a song called ‘Why We Drink.’ So, in a roundabout way, my mom gave me the idea.”
Late Nights and Longnecks, which also features the single “Someday I Gotta Quit,” will be released this Friday via Big Machine Label Group.
