Judah & the Lion team up with Kacey Musgraves for “Pictures”

A mournful, heartsick ballad.

Nashville-based outfit Judah & the Lion have teamed up with Kacey Musgraves for the somber duet, “Pictures.”

Frontman Judah Akers and Musgraves sing of regret over a failed relationship on the sentimental ballad. “Just another sad song / Of a love gone wrong / I hate that I’m taking / Our pictures off the walls,” they harmonize on the chorus, backed by banjo and sustained piano chords.

“I had a really deep moment with my mom when she called me and broke down bawling about how hard it was to move from our family house,” Akers told Rolling Stone. “I wrote the song from her perspective and it came in a flood, in five minutes, right after the call. I needed to write it because I was heartsick.”

“Pictures” is the second song released from the group’s upcoming album Pep Talks, due out May 3, following last month’s “Over My Head.” Musgraves, on the other hand, recently walked away with four awards at the 2019 Grammys, including Record of the Year.
