Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit return with “Be Afraid”

The first taste of ‘Reunions.’

Jason Isbell and his band the 400 Unit are back in business. Their new song, “Be Afraid,” is out now.

Written by Isbell, the song features a classic country rock melody. But beneath all that steely guitar and crashing drums are empowering lyrics about conquering your fears and using your voice to take a stand against injustice. “We don’t take requests / We won’t shut up and sing / Tell the truth enough you’ll find it rhymes with everything,” Isbell sings on the bridge.

“Be Afraid” will feature on the band’s first album in almost three years, Reunions. Out May 15, the new record features production from Isbell’s frequent collaborator Dave Cobb, who also worked on the band’s last album, 2017’s The Nashville Sound.
