Hear Ingrid Andress’ moving cover of Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now”

She turned the disco pop track into an emotional ballad.

Ingrid Andress has covered Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” for the Spotify Singles series.

Andress reimagines the British pop star’s romping single as an emotional, piano-led ballad. “Putting your own spin on an already perfect pop song is intimidating BUT I absolutely loved recording Dua Lipa[‘s] ‘Don’t Start Now’ for my Spotify singles… and harmonies are hard,” Andress wrote on Instagram.

The Colorado singer also reworked her own song “Lady Like” for Spotify Singles, making space for an ethereal-sounding electric guitar and her delicate vocals. It’s the title track of Andress’ debut album, which she released in March. The record also spawned the singles “More Hearts Than Mine” and “The Stranger.”

Andress is not the first artist to put their own spin on “Don’t Start Now”—the producer Kaytranada recently deconstructed it for a remix, and Alex Skolnick, guitarist of the thrash metal band Testament, gave it a jazzy makeover in April.
