Dawn Landes has released a stirring cover of Dolly Parton’s “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” featuring the late Justin Townes Earle.
The captivating acoustic rendition was recorded at Landes’s studio in Brooklyn while the pair were on tour together in 2010. Recorded live in one take with one microphone, Landes and Townes Earle originally released the cover as a free download and often performed their version live.
Parton originally recorded “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” with Chet Atkins for his 1976 album The Best of Chet Atkins & Friends. She later released her own version alongside “I Will Always Love You” in 1982.
Townes Earle died last August from an accidental drug overdose. His father Steve Earle honoured the late musician in January by releasing JT, a covers album which saw Steve Earle perform his son’s songs.
Part of the proceeds from the Bandcamp sales of Landes and Townes Earle’s cover will go to the late musician’s family. Hear their cover of “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” below:
