Brandi Carlile has released a studio version of her rendition of John Prine’s last ever song, “I Remember Everything.”
The official release came after she honored Prine at the 63rd Grammy Awards by performing the song for the ceremony—a stirring rendition that was a definite highlight.
Carlile’s cover will appear on Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine, Vol 2. The tribute album will contain Prine covers from a range of artists, following on from the first volume released in 2010.
“John Prine is a hero and one of the most important and significant songwriters of our time,” Carlile said in a statement. “I feel so lucky to have called him a friend. It was an absolute honor of my life to pay tribute to him on the Grammy stage. His songs will live forever.”
The late country icon passed away on April 7 last year from complications relating to COVID-19. Two months later, his label released “I Remember Everything” posthumously. The song, which was Prine’s first and only chart-topping recording, took home two Grammy awards on Sunday: Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song.
