On Sunday, Eric Church debuted a new unreleased song, “Never Break Heart,” during the CBS TV Special ACM Presents: Our Country. The show replaced the annual Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards show, which has been rescheduled to September in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before he began his performance, Church shared an uplifting and much-needed message of encouragement. “The hardest thing about this for me as a dad, as a husband, as a business leader, as a citizen, has been the unknown. I believe we fear the unknown,” the singer said. “And after some thought and a lot of prayer, here’s what I know—I have hope and you should have hope, because since the beginning of time, people have gathered.” He also reminded the viewers to “not fear, but to be brave, and endure” during this difficult time.
Church then launched into a moving performance of “Never Break Heart.” “Don’t let fear steal your brave heart / Don’t let doubt take your faith heart / It’s ok to cry / But don’t never break heart,” he sings on the hopeful tune.
The ACM Presents: Our Country TV special included other stripped-down performances from Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, Kane Brown and John Legend and more. Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley also paid tribute to the late Kenny Rogers by playing a medley of his hits “Lucille,” “The Gambler” and “Coward of the County.”
Church is climbing up the country charts with his current single “Monsters.” New music in the form of an as-yet-untitled album is expected to drop this year.
