David Nail is back with new single, “Heavy”

The country star returns with a new band and a stark departure from his usual upbeat offerings.

David Nail is back with fresh music and a distinct new sound. A year after parting ways with Universal Music Group, the country star has marked his return with the release of an atmospheric country rock single, “Heavy.”

Now, fronting his new band David Nail and the Well Ravens, the singer-songwriter has perfectly captured melancholy on the track. “Heavy” dabbles in mesmerizing ambient effects and shimmers that modernize country rock with a touch of indie, echoing the sentimental themes of his lyrics. It’s a drastic left-turn from the lighter, more positive vibes of his previous albums.

On  the song, Nail sings of a former lover who he desperately wants back after a painful split. “I don’t want to lose you now / Gotta be someway, gotta be somehow / Would you reconsider if I say I’d change / If it gets too heavy I’ll carry the weight,” he croons.

“If this is something that is different from anything I’ve ever done, should we go with the song that’s the most different?” he explained in an interview with Rolling Stone.
