Hootie & the Blowfish vocalist Darius Rucker has offered a respite from the COVID-19 pandemic in the form of his new solo single, “Beers and Sunshine.”
The summery, upbeat new track falls firmly into the country pop roadmap Rucker established away from Hootie & the Blowfish, and expresses the singer’s optimistic perspective on life during isolation.
“It’s certainly been a hard year so far with a lot of heaviness around us constantly,” Rucker explained in a statement. “Like it says in the song, I don’t know how we fix any of these big, real issues that we’re facing, but while we work through this time I think it’s important that we find the silver lining where we can really enjoy the little moments and the simple joys of time spent together with friends and family.”
Rucker’s last solo album was 2017’s When Was the Last Time. Last year, he and Hootie & the Blowfish dropped the comeback album Imperfect Circle, their first full-length in 14 years. The group spent majority of 2019 touring behind the album across North America and Europe. Earlier this year, Rucker appeared as a guest artist on Jimmie Allen’s Bettie James EP.
