Break out the tissues: Chris Young’s dropped a new video for his latest single “Drowning,” and it’s a tearjerker.
The clip takes point from the song’s chorus (“So I’m gonna pull out pictures, ones with you in ’em / Laugh and cry a little while reminiscing by myself”) and features people holding photographs of loved ones they’ve lost. Young also joins in with an image of his late best friend, Adam. The visual also includes shots of the country singer performing to a packed arena.
For Young, who penned the song with Corey Crowder and Josh Hoge, the writing process was “very heavy and emotional,” he told Billboard. “But in a good way, kind of a cathartic way… Writing a song about people that you’ve lost, you want it to be, you know, written to the wall.”
“Drowning” is Young’s latest single, following “Raised on Country” and “Town Ain’t Big Enough.” The tracks will feature on the singer’s forthcoming as-yet-untitled eighth studio album.
