Chris Young is “Drowning” in grief on his new single

This one’s a tearjerker.

Chris Young has unveiled “Drowning,” a touching tribute to a friend gone too soon.

The song, written by the country singer with Corey Crowder and Josh Hoge, features Young’s baritone vocals over tender piano and guitar chords. “I’ve still got your number in my phone / Even though you don’t wanna listen / I still call and wait for the tone / Just to hear you saying ‘Leave a message,’” he sings.

“When I wrote this song with Corey Crowder and Josh Hoge, we each thought of someone that we lost way too soon,” Young wrote on Instagram. “For me, it was one of my best friends, Adam. Missing you comes in waves and tonight I’m drowning. This one is for you, brother.”

“Drowning” is Young’s latest single, following January’s “Raised on Country.” Both tracks are set to be included on the singer’s forthcoming LP, Raised on Country, due out later this year.
