Chris Stapleton is ‘Starting Over’ on his new album

His first full-length in three years.

Chris Stapleton has made his long-awaited return with his fourth studio album, Starting Over.

The 14-track record, which he teased earlier this year with “Arkansas” and the title track, is the country singer’s first release since 2017’s From A Room: Volume 2. Recording for the LP had initially started in 2018, at the famed Alabama studio Muscle Shoals Sound, before Stapleton took a break and moved back to his home studio, the RCA Studio A in Nashville.

“Sometimes when you have some distance between yourself making something and then you get to listen to it with a fresh perspective you’re like, ‘That was really good,’” Stapleton told the Tennessean. “Sometimes your mental state can play tricks on your own mind.”

He also noted that the record “has a lot of depth in it.” He added: “It has a lot of variance in tone and music. It feels a little a bit like not a complete departure, but a little different lane to some of the things we’ve done. But it still very much sounds like the things that we do.”
