Check out a strings-only rendition of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”

It’s a haunting remake of the 1973 classic.

Dolly Parton has released a new version of her 1973 hit, “Jolene,” played with strings only.

Against a backdrop of emotive strings, Parton’s singing starts out as a soft, ghostly whisper before belting out the chorus, her pleading lyric more pained with each passing line. The stunning new take will be on the soundtrack of Netflix’s upcoming film, Dumplin’.

“‘Jolene’ has been on the prowl a long time, but she just got a makeover and I couldn’t be more excited to share the new string version with y’all!” the singer tweeted.
