Dolly Parton has released a new version of her 1973 hit, “Jolene,” played with strings only.
Against a backdrop of emotive strings, Parton’s singing starts out as a soft, ghostly whisper before belting out the chorus, her pleading lyric more pained with each passing line. The stunning new take will be on the soundtrack of Netflix’s upcoming film, Dumplin’.
“‘Jolene’ has been on the prowl a long time, but she just got a makeover and I couldn’t be more excited to share the new string version with y’all!” the singer tweeted.
The singer is also heavily involved with the upcoming soundtrack, teaming up with Miranda Lambert to re-record “Dumb Blonde” and collaborating with Sia on “Here I am.”
