Carly Pearce strips down “Closer to You” in live performance

“I feel like I very much know my place in country music now.”

Carly Pearce has released a video of her live performance of “Closer to You,” the lead single of her forthcoming sophomore album, for YouTube Nashville Sessions.

The country singer pares back the instrumentation for this intimate rendition. Gone are the crashing drum beats, finger snaps and heavy guitar chords—instead, the emphasis is on her crystal-clear vocals.

Pearce’s second full-length is due out later this year, and this time around, she’s more confident of the record’s direction. “With my first album, I was unsure [of] how people were going to embrace me,” she told CMT. “And so, with [the upcoming record], I obviously feel pressure to make sure fans love the music, but I feel like I very much know my place in country music now,” she added.
