Ashley McBryde has released “One Night Standards,” the lead single from her forthcoming album.
On the song, written by the country singer with Shane McAnally and Nicolette Hayford, McBryde lays down the ground rules for a one-night stand with her short-term lover. “How it goes is, bar closes / There’s no king bed covered in roses / Just a room without a view / I don’t want a number you ain’t gonna answer / Let’s just stick to the one night standards,” McBryde sings.
“We had to walk away from [the song] to give it a second to breathe,” McBryde said of the writing process. “When we got back in a room, this time Shane was with us and I joked, ‘You know, hotel rooms… they only have one nightstand for a reason. They’re one nightstand-ers.’ Shane and Nic’s eyes lit up: ‘Did you just say one night standards?’”
“One Night Standards” is the first taste of McBryde’s forthcoming album, due out in 2020. The as-yet-untitled record is her follow-up to last year’s Girl Going Nowhere, her major label debut on Warner Music Nashville.
