Amanda Shires has shared a cover of the Genesis song “That’s All” to bid farewell to 2020.
Shires sings over jaunty piano on the track, which received a lyric video treatment that recaps notable developments of 2020. From the mass closure of venues due to the pandemic to the Black Lives Matter protests and the deaths of Little Richard and John Prine, the video tries to cover it all. Shires produced her cover of “That’s All” with Pete Levin, who makes a ‘cameo’ as a keyboard-playing “Levinbot 5000” robot.
“‘That’s All’ is a song that I have played a lot on tour,” Shires shared in a statement. “The song defines 2020 for me, a true COVID anthem. I dare you to not dance to my version when you hear it.”
In October, Shires released the song “The Problem” with her husband and collaborator Jason Isbell to raise funds for reproductive rights in Alabama. To the Sunset, Shires’ most recent solo album, arrived in 2018. She then formed the supergroup the Highwomen alongside Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby and Maren Moss. They released their self-titled debut album in 2019.
